As your host for the 2016 General Assembly, the National Federation of the Blind welcomes you to the United States. You will find Orlando, Florida to be a wonderful city with many interesting attractions, great restaurants, sunny, warm weather and friendly people. Most of all, we wish to welcome you to our Federation family.
In 2015, the Federation celebrated its 75th anniversary. For over three quarters of a century, we have worked to help society and blind people themselves understand that the blind have the ability to live productive, integrated lives. We know that blind people have succeeded in nearly every trade and profession, and through our collective efforts, we will continue to expand opportunities for blind people throughout the world. We want all blind people to recognize that blindness is not the characteristic that defines us or our future. Every day we work to raise the expectations of blind people. We know that low expectations create obstacles between us and our dreams, but by working together we can break free of those low expectations and live the lives we want.
We look forward to your visit and the opportunity to learn from you, share with you and plan together to insure that every blind person has the opportunity to live and work as others without the limitations imposed by society's low expectations.
